Culinary delights in Les Landes
The Landes region is also known for its rich gastronomic traditions. There are various eateries such as the local markets where you can enjoy the dishes in their purest form. A little more comfortable you can sit in bistros and starred restaurants where both simple local dishes and refined gastronomy are served. In addition, you must visit the oyster huts, such as those on Lake Hossegor. Les Landes is famous for its "Canard Fermier des Landes", ducks that are bred according to strict quality standards and carry two prestigious labels: Label Rouge and IGP. Try the Foie gras, the crown jewel of Landes cuisine; Confit de canard, gently cooked duck leg and the Magret de canard, juicy duck breast. Traditional dishes also include the Garbure, a hearty soup with vegetables and duck or pork; the Landes salad, a colourful mix of local products, including foie gras, Bayonne ham, duck breast and white asparagus; and Pastis landais, a brioche scented with orange blossom water, perfect for coffee. Finish your meal with one of the following local drinks: The local wines of Tursan, Vin des Sables and Coteaux de Chalosse or Armagnac, the famous brandy.
