Languedoc, unique region in France
The special thing about the Languedoc region is that it offers all that France has to offer as a whole, in terms of nature and animation. The region is located between the Pyrenees, which forms the border between France and Spain, and the Mediterranean Sea. In this southernmost part of France the sun shines brightly and there are pleasant temperatures from early spring to late autumn. The coast has beautiful sandy beaches and rocky bays with charming fishing villages and seaside resorts such as Collioure, Banyuls and Canet. Just inland from the coast there are gentle slopes with authentic villages and Languedoc wine. The Pyrenees is perfect for hiking or mountain biking and also has many castles and palaces/ remnants of palaces built in the Cathar era.
Entertainment and sightseeing
The coast of the Mediterranean Sea, provides possibilities for all kinds of water sports such as swimming, sailing, diving, jet skiing, making boat trips and paragliding and of course sunbathing on the beach. Visit the cozy seaside resorts, stroll through the streets and enjoy the terraces. Perpignan and Narbonne are good cities for shopping. The Canal du Midi is very popular for cycling. This canal connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Atlantic coast. Carcassonne is known for its world-famous Cité and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Enjoying a day in the Pyrenees or visiting Andorra, are two day trips that are also very popular among tourists. During the spring there is still snow.
