In the monkey forest in Rocamadour, around 150 monkeys run loose through the park. They’ll run around you and they will sit next to you whilst you relax and they’ll eat the popcorn you get by the entrance from your hand. The monkeys are harmless which means this is also a safe activity to do with your children. The monkeys are used to living among the people. There is a restaurant by the entrance of the park where you can eat and drink.
The zoo in Gramat is a great day out during the holidays for you and your family. The park is home to over 1000 animals from 150 different animal species. To properly visit all the animals you’ll need most of the day. The park is home to wolves, bears, lynxes, bison, various species of birds, storks, pelicans, deer, wild horses and much more. The park has a restaurant, playground and picnic areas.
The Aquarium in Le Bugue is the largest private freshwater aquarium in Europe with over 70 basins and 6,000 animals. There are are covered and outdoor basins. There is also a basin with crocodiles, anacondas, iguanas and caimans. See the tropical fish, snakes, lizards, and other reptiles. There is a bird of prey park with over sixty species in the popular pilgrimage site Rocamadour in the Lot. The park has all sorts of birds such as eagles, vultures, falcons, owls and parrots. Various shows are also held daily where the birds show their skills. Before and after the show, you can watch the birds in their cages. Children can also help feed the birds.
In Calviac there is a zoo that is different from other zoos. This zoo is home to animal species which are threatened with extinction. The zoo takes great care in the reproduction of these animals to ensure they don’t become instinct. The park has animals from all over the world such as squirrel monkeys, tamarins, tapirs, margays, lemurs, special kangaroos and maned wolves. You can even enter the cages of several of these animals so that you can view them up close.
