Boardercross or Snowboardcross

For some, skiing or snowboarding on the slopes is no longer a challenge. The green, blue and red slopes are a thing of the past, a single black slope is fun to do, but there is a need for more adrenaline. As with many sports, the boundaries are increasingly being pushed here. Snowboard cross is the next challenge. This variation on traditional snowboarding has now grown into a proper Olympic Sport.

In recent years, snowboard cross has risen rapidly in popularity, especially among experienced snowboarders. Well-known ski areas in France such as Les Trois Vallées, Les 2 Alpes and Les Arcs have designed special courses and trails for this. These are also present in the Portes du Soleil region. This sporting activity is known by different names. In addition to Boardercross or Snowboardcross, it is also called SBX, Snowboard X or BoarderX. The races always attract many visitors and they are exciting to watch.

Downhill on a boardercross course

Many advanced snowboarders experience snowboard cross as the ultimate challenge, to push their boundaries further. Seen as there are all kinds of levels in snowboard cross, the boundaries can be pushed further and further. BoarderX is a combination of a downhill race and an obstacle course with all kinds of freestyle elements. The course consists of bends, jumps, tunnels and height differences where the boarders have to keep control of their board, go down as fast as possible, master the skills on the obstacles and pass their opponents. Often four or six snowboarders compete against each other.

Boardcross, an official Olympic sport

Snowboard cross has grown into a sport that is practiced at a high level. It has been part of the Winter X Games since they were founded in 1997. In addition, it has been part of the Olympic Games since the 2006 games. It is also part of the Snowboard World Cup, the Skiing and Snowboarding World Championships, the Snowboard World Cup and the FIS Ski and Snowboardcross European Cup. This extreme sport is not without danger. Collisions regularly occur and they often result in serious injuries. Wearing a helmet and other protective equipment is mandatory.
