Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The biggest sporting event in the world is back again and this time the Olympic Games will be held in France! The French capital Paris will be home to more than 10,000 athletes from all over the world, who will travel to France from 206 countries to compete against each other. The Games will be held from 26 July to 11 August and can of course also be followed extensively on television or online. But wouldn’t it be nice to experience one of the Olympic Games event in real life whilst on holiday in France?

A sporting event that is unparalleled

The Summer Olympics are held every four years. During the Olympics the entire sports world is focused on this unique event, of which it is the dream for every athlete to be able to participate one day. The Games result in exciting matches and beautiful scenes. We all remember the many successes achieved by the UK people during the Olympic Games. And this year too, there are plenty of chances for UK athletes to win a lot of medals again. The Olympics always guarantee special achievements, as well as drama of the highest order. For many athletes, the Games are the highlight of their sporting career, and they do everything they can to succeed.

Sports fun in France

This year the Games are finally back to normal; the previous edition was severely disrupted by the corona pandemic. For example, the Games in Tokyo were already postponed from 2020 to 2021 and practically no foreign fans were allowed to attend the event. Fortunately, this year's Games can be held as normal and fans from all over the world will travel to Paris to attend them.  You can bet that France will make a big spectacle out of this event!

The entire city is being transformed into an Olympic city, with new sports halls even being built at two locations. New sports are added to the Olympic program every year. Where last year the sports added were surfing, climbing and skateboarding, breakdancing has been added to the program for this year.

Paris shows its best side

Cities that hosts the Olympic Games often build a lot of new facilities. Paris is only doing so to a certain extent. On the contrary, they have chosen to put existing, iconic locations in the spotlight. For example, the world-famous Roland Garros stadium will be used for tennis and boxing, while several football matches will be played in the Parc des Princes. The Seine River will be used for the triathlon, among other things, while track cycling will be practiced in the Velodrome.

Around the Eiffel Tower

Some sporting events, such as the marathon and race walking, will be organized around and near the Eiffel Tower. By doing so, they want to show the city of Paris at its best, and what better location to do so than at the Eiffel Tower, the center of France!

New facilities for the Olympic Games

Nevertheless, a number of new facilities have also been built to allow the athletes to practice their sport. For example, a brand-new Olympic Aquatics Centre has been built, a swimming pool that can accommodate no less than 15,000 spectators! The centre will host events such as swimming competitions and water polo matches. Incidentally, the capacity of this building will be reduced to 2500 after the Olympic Games. Paris has also built another pool, originally named Olympics Aquatics Center 2. This building is much smaller than the other aquatics centre, with a capacity of 5,000. This hall will mainly be used for diving, synchronized swimming and the group stage matches for the water polo tournament.

Not all events are in Paris

The majority of the sports events will take place in Paris, or in the surrounding area. Versailles will organize all equestrian events. For all sailing events, which logically cannot be organized in Paris, the port of Marseille has been chosen.

A beautiful place to visit and enjoy the Olympic sport. Football fans can visit matches all over the country. In addition to Paris, the matches in the men's and women's tournament will be played in Nice, Bordeaux, Nantes, Lilles and Lyon, among others.
