UNESCO – Le Cité in Carcassonne
There is no better place to host this festival than in Le Cité in Carcassonne. A number of performances also take place in the city centre of Carcassonne. The town of Carcassonne is known to many for its beautiful medieval castle. It is a huge complex and there is actually a whole village in the castle with shops, houses, a hotel, a cathedral and a castle. There are also plenty of restaurants with lively terraces. There is a wide strip between the double walls of the castle on which you can walk around the city. You’ll also see towers built along the wall. A tourist train runs through the city, which makes it easy for you to see all the sights. The castle is also home to the Jean Deschamps Theatre and the Château Comtal, most of the festival takes place at these two spots. Read more...
The Jean-Deschamps Theatre
This theatre is a unique location for performances during the summer months. Well-known artists perform on these stages which you can attend by buying a ticket. A performance is organised here every night when it starts to get dark. The twilight, the towers and the thick walls of the castle surrounding you, make up for a very special atmosphere. The performances also make use of lighting effects which make the walls constantly change colour.
Château Comtal
In the heart of Le cite you’ll find the Château Comtal, which used to be the residence of the Counts of Carcassonne. The entrance gates of the large castle will lead you to a small street with shops leads straight to the entrance gates of the Château Comtal. Once inside, you will find yourself in a courtyard in front of the Château. The authentic atmosphere of the past has been preserved in the Château. For a month during the summer, performances are held in the chateau and the public can enjoy singing, art, opera and concerts.
Meet well-known artists whilst on holiday
The popularity of the Carcassonne Festival is increased due to the performances of well-known international artists. In the past, these have included names such as Elton John, Johnny Halliday, Scorpions, Diana Ross, Charles Aznavour, Indochine, Moby, les Smashing Pumpkins, Supertramp, Deep Purple, Olivia Ruiz and many others. This year again, several well-known names will be performing such as: Patrick Bruel and Christophe Maé who will focus on French chansons. The German Scorpions, the American Greta Van Fleet and the French Shaka Ponk will perform for the rock fans. The group Louise Attaque, led by Gaëtan Roussel, and the artist Mika will also be performing at the festival next summer in Carcassonne. Don't miss these performances whilst staying at one of FranceComfort's holiday parks.
