Visiting a zoo remains fun whether your young or old. Big elephants, strong lions, climbing monkeys, it remains impressive. South of the Arcachon Basin, in La Teste-de-Buch, there is a beautiful zoo with over 800 animals. It is one of the largest zoos in France.
Going to the zoo with your children
Going to the zoo is certainly fun for children. They get to observe animals such as bears, tigers, little pandas, giraffes, toucans and more, making their day unforgettable. You can also watch the feeding of the animals during which the employees of the zoo talk about the animals and what’s happening. The feeding times are indicated in the park, there are even special occasions where children can help the caretakers with for example feeding.
Unique bridge over the lions
A bridge has been built over the residence of the lions, this is very unique in Europe. You can safely walk above the lions and see them from up close. The older lions calmly walk around, minding their own business. The young lions play a lot. Being able to walk so close to the lions is something that you do not see a lot and therefore a must when visiting the area!
Care of the animals
The zoo has its own vet who takes care of the animals and their health. There is also an operating room, a digital X-ray and ultrasound equipment, an autopsy room and a centre where the animals can be quarantined if needs be.
Restaurant in the zoo
There is a restaurant in the zoo where you can buy both food and drinks. The restaurant has items such as sandwiches, French fries, ice creams and chilled drinks. You are also allowed to bring your own food and drinks and there are many benches and picnic areas in the zoo where you can enjoy your snacks. These benches and picnic areas are ideally located in the shade of the trees, a perfect place to relax on a warm day!
Practical information
There is a boutique in the park where you can buy all kinds of souvenirs such as stuffed animals, pens, caps and much more.
The entrance fee is € 24 for both adults and children from 12 years old. For children under 12 years old the fee is € 17.

We had a great day at the zoo with our 2 children aged 5 and 8. The park is beautifully laid out and houses many different types of animals.
